5/2 = 2/2 + 2/2 + 1/2
= 1+1 + 1/2
= 2 1/2
How ?
Just .. DO THE SUM IN FRONT OF YOU.
Divide 2 into 5.
2.5 or 2 1/2
In Fraction: 5/2
In Mixed: 2½
In Decimal: 2.5
2 1/2 or 2.5 since 2 goes into 5 twice and there's 1/5 left over.
Whole Number =2.5 Mixed Number =2 &1/2
Just as a reference, any time you see a fraction, the / can be substituted for a division symbol (called an obelus). As such, you can use the fraction to make a whole number or mixed number. In your example of 5/2, if you replace the / with a division symbol, this tells you to divide 5 by 2, leaving you with a whole number of 2.5, to make a mixed number you to the same thing, except instead of using an integer after the decimal point, we will use the the decimals to make a fraction. Since a mixed number is a whole number and a fraction, and if we use the same method by dividing 5/2 we again get 2.5, but we don't want an integer after the decimal so we write any numbers after the decimal as a fraction. In this case the fractional form of .5 is 1/2 leaving us with a mixed number of 2 and 1/2
