I have a 6 year old cat, and my boyfriends dog is 8 years old, ( great pyrennes and german shepherd mix). We are moving in together soon FINALLY! however I am terrified... if you even make a fake meow sound our dog is on the search for the cat... he's been in fights with random cats before too.. ( and he kills mice! so he's big but quick!) and I love my kitty but my parents refuse to keep him any longer so he has to come with us... and he's very independent not cuddly and kinda mean so Im too scared to give him away because he'll end up in a shelter or dead... and I can't have that.. I am too afraid if someone takes him on they wont know how to handle him. ( and he's very strong too so old people aren't an option unfortunately) and of course there's no way our dog is going anywhere either SO basically... does anyone know of a very good way to introduce them to each other without any problems? or at least a trick to avoid the problems without needing to lock one up for months at the risk of a blood bath? ( I am specifying that because my cat does not do well in small enclosed rooms AAATTTT ALLLL ) I am sure there are ways I am just not sure how to take on these two as they are both EXTREMELY stubborn! I am worried the standard ways of introducing pets isn't going to be anywhere near enough with these two! Please help!!

Ok I can tell you for sure that it will never work to get the cat to like the dog or even get near him is impossible! Getting the dog to like the cat is 99.9 percent impossible I don't want be negative but these animals were never socialized together or with other animals, just keep them separate them at all times, there is chance you can still socialize the dog by taking him to dog parks and outside in the parks maybe he sees some squirrels and before you put him in the house make sure he is tired from he's activities and walks so he won't be able to chase the cat, hope this helps!

Answer isn't changing - it's either the cat or the dog, as otherwise you WILL end up with a badly mauled or dead cat.

Your cat will be killed by this dog.
Dogs are hunters, and while cats are hunters too they are also prey.
Your cat will get hurt by his dog, unless one of you find a new home for one of your pets, or you get a large enough house where the dog and cat can have their own rooms.

You need to be aware that some breeds of dogs are natural cat killers and you cannot make them be friends with ANY cat. You are preparing to put two mutual enemies in the same home...it will end in disaster. Find a new home for the cat. Sorry.
