The x-intercepts are the values of x for which f(x) = 0. You need to solve x² - x - 56 = 0

x² - x - 56 = (x-8)(x+7) = 0
x-intercepts: 8,-7
f(x) crosses the x-axis at (8,0) and (-7,0)

x^2-x-56
factor

(x-8)(x+7) = x^2-x-56

x-8=0
x=8

x+7=0
x=-7
