People are very persistent in their delusions.

Most people will hold some beliefs they never question or subject to scrutiny.

This can be due to a lack of critical thinking skills, lack of information and even fear caused by indoctrination.

Religions are very good at making people terrified of questioning their beliefs. This fear is so pervasive that some people still feel it instinctively even after they have abandoned their religion.

Sadly, we all know what the consequences of these persistent delusions are.

I think you need to pay a little more attention in class. Speaking as a scientist, I can tell you that there's very little we can prove or account for. Speaking as a person who follows a religion, I can tell you that violence is part of the human condition. The world's main religions teach that violence is evil, but that doesn't stop idiots using religion either as an excuse or a target.

Science CAN'T prove everything.
Religious beliefs also cause altruism.

The psychology of religion is not as simple as you anti-theists like to believe.

Religion can inspire all kinds of people, ranging from psychopaths with a bloodlust to selfless people like Martin Luther King Jr.

What, science doesn't lead to violence? The scientists who specifically made atomic weapons - those weren't intended for violence? Ask the elderly of Hiroshima or Nagasaki about that.

Misuse is what leads to violence, for either science or religion.

It's obviously a lie that religious beliefs do nothing but cause violence.

BTW, if you weren't braindead, you'd realize that not everyone IS religion.

Science can't "prove EVERYTHING" -- it does describe and explain the natural world. And it's clear there was no Sky Bully involved.

But that doesn't mean that all believers just give up their beliefs. If you want to understand, there are ways you could find out what various people's arguments are -- this forum isn't really very good for that.

Your question assumes that science can explore the spiritual when they can't. The Bible also proves science, science believe s big bang, the Bible says God created the heavens and the earth. God said let there be light and there was light. Let there be light, indicates that could be what science consider the big bang.

Also, there are different religion, not every religion is of God. Christianity doesn't cause violence, it proclaims the gospel. Not all Muslims are terrorist.

It's actually a lot easier to be religious when people contrive desperate posts like this, making claims as audacious as "religious beliefs just cause violence." I suggest you stop Googling all the things religion has done wrong, and get out and get some experience with the real world. If you don't think religion has ever done anything beside cause violence, you have lived an extremely and tragically sheltered life.

Science is not the only source of new knowledge. Religion is, without contradiction, capable of noble heroism and inhuman cruelty. Compare it to technology. I conclude that religious beliefs are not as you claim.

The claim that some day science will explain everything is contrary to what philosophy says science is.

I rationally remain religious despite your claims about science. Ultimate causes are not the realm of science. A statement about religion using science as analogy or metaphor is not science anymore than creation science is science.

well first of all science can't prove everything yet haha and I don't think religions cause violence, I think its an excuse people use sometimes but id say most religious people (of all faiths) are not violent in nature. people can be violent, and if they want to be violent they will find a passage that makes them feel like its ok. but I think people still cling to religion because it tells them they are going to live forever in paradise with all their loved ones. its comforting. it's hard to think that your just gonna be dead one day.
