Pregnant and on blood thinners?

If you're on blood thinners due to blood clot risk, it may be safer to stay on them (or switch to a pregnancy-safe alternate medication) since pregnancy itself can be the cause of blood clots. Although things like strokes, clots in the lungs, and pulmonary embolisms are rare in pregnancy, they are not unheard of.

Honestly, your primary care physician may not be the best qualified for making a recommendation on whether or not you should continue your medication during pregnancy. Since you have a known health risk, you should consider working with a high-risk OB.

I was on aspirin through my whole pregnancy in order to thin my blood to prevent clots. If you're on that you should be fine, but seen as he said you can get pregnant once you come off them in presuming you're taking something else? All I can suggest is keep trying your doctors, make it a priority. Check the NHS site for affects your medication can have on your baby and if it is worrying then stop taking them until you speak to your doctors.
Or stop taking them anyway, there are other natural things you can take instead. For example, I didn't want aspirin at first so took several natural remedies such as lots of cranberry juice.
Good luck and keep trying your doctor, or get a number for a midwifery unit or delivery triage. Or just drive yourself to hospital for advice, as it is very important!
