Are Mcdonald's chips vegetarian?

I'm vegetarian and I eat Mcdonalds, but according to my friend they're smothered in meat fat or whatever. She always tries to prove I'm not vegetarian for some reason, so is she just trying to catch me out, or is she being honest?

In Canada and Europe, they stopped using the vegetable based beef flavouring as most still thought it was real meat, it was sprayed on at the end of the process before freezing, they still use it in the US and some Asian countries, they use canola or soya oil, when I worked at one in the 1970's, it was peanut and vegetable oil, it came in blocks, we had to filter the oil 2 times a day with a vacuum like fat filter machine, and they do not cook the meats in any country as the fries, the chicken nuggets, chicken burgers and fish are done in smaller higher heat fryers for a longer time, they have special racks, we use to fry the apple pies in a special fryer, not there baked in the same oven as the muffins.

you need to contact McDonalds in your city/country and ask. Its not the same everywhere and people sometimes forget that YA in the english language covers both UK, US and Canada and other countries.

Your friend is right. See link.

Several years ago McDonalds was sued for claiming their fries were vegetarian. They lost, cost them big bucks. These days they are very careful NOT to make such claims.

They are cooked in vegetable oil and McDonalds is surprisingly quite careful to prevent contamination with meat products

I recently went somewhere with my mom and she stopped at McDonald's (something I never do). There was a notice on the lower part of the menu declaring that the same fat was used for the fries and chicken, and that the chicken was battered with buttermilk, so that people who were sensitive to milk or had an aversion to having anything to do with meat would be notified.
So I would say that many Mickey D's have french fries/chips that are not vegetarian.

they fry their chips in the same oil as the meat but they use veggie oil (at least where I'm from).
