I'm flying to Maryland from Ohio to see my brother and I'm going to be traveling alone for the first time, for a round trip it says it'll cost me $179. I need more details, is that for the one trip there and back or do I have to pay it when I go and when I come back?

You said round trip... do you know what round trip means. The flight(s) cost $179.

If it says "round-trip" and that is your total cost when you go to check out and pay, then that is the cost of the entire trip - there and back.
If you are still in the flight selection process, and are choosing your outbound flight from MD to OH, and that price is listed as $179, then that is the price for just that segment.
You will see your total price when you've selected both segments. So if you have done that, and the total is $179, then that is your total cost.

A round trip is there and back

If you type in round-trip, then the ticket price that the website gives you should be the total price including taxes.

If you booked for a roundtrip, the price shown (and of which you pay for) includes the cost for the trip there and the return flight.

what part of round trip is confusing you? U pay for the ticket and u go both ways!!
