This year, I've given a lot to charity. Just did this very morning. What I like to do is give a small amount to church (preacher is very well off) then I help the poor as Jesus instructed. I normally give to Red Cross, Union Mission, Salvation Army and Operation blessing. Then I give food to the food bank. The charities I mentioned often help with disasters such as house fires, disease outbreaks, etc....then the Union mission feeds the homeless and salvation army gives them a place to sleep, showers, a ride to job interviews, etc.
I tend to go through spells with charity, some years I donate a lot, and some years very little. I realize I am very blessed with a decent middle class income, so it's my duty to give some to those less fortunate. Do as your heart leads.

Yes, I give of my time and income to my church, its homeless assistance ministry partners, its orphanage and economic development mission in Haiti, and occasionally to nonprofits like Food for the Poor, children's hospitals, and Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign.

I also work part-time for a charitable organization. It's kind of shitty because like every other small employer in the U.S. these days, the whole staff is part-time so they dodge insurance and unemployment mandates. I'd love to work there full-time, but they're not hiring full-time.

So without knowing what "ethical earning" means to you, I can only say it's generally easier to find work with a semblance of dignity during economic growth phases than in phases of economic recession.

When I'm in a position to give, yes. Charity is important. I have a few favorite pet causes that I like to donate excess income to. Animals, children, and veterans mostly. Right now, due to life circumstances, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel and I'm pretty much a charity case myself, so I need what I have. But you don't just have to donate money. You can offer your time and labor as well when you have nothing else to give. Even now I volunteer my time at my local community center and with an organization call The 10 Lives Club that helps find homes for abandoned cats. Charity is good for the heart, mind, and soul.
