How does the name change (Armistice day to Veteran's day) reflect a difference in intention or philosophy?

It's a broadening of focus to encompass the suffering of those who fought in all hostilities. It a recognition that the war to finish all wars didn't.

From a celebration of the signing of the armistice, to celebrating the men who fought for the armistice in every war.

Armistice Day referred to signing the armistice ending WW I at Versailles. This occurred at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. That is why Nov 11th is the date of observance. When the name was changed, the purpose was to honor all our veterans, not only those who participated in WW I.

Pretty simple. Just as Curtis Edward Clark.com has said.

The war behind us and the veterans still here. We honor and celebrate them.

Besides. It would be confusing to try and celebrate the end of every war. They just keep making more. Much easier to just celebrate and honor those who have served in the military, ever. All of them. We do owe them a debt of gratitude.

Thank you US Vets!
