In the video game soma, how could the people escape into space with the ark if they were trapped in robot bodies?

The ark only contained a scan of their consciousnesses, a copy, so it didn't matter what happened to their bodies.
It wouldn't help their original selves (however note the subplot about suicides, people killing themselves so their scan would be the only version of themselves) but it brought some of them comfort, knowing a copy of themselves, with all their feelings and memories up to that point, would live on.
