Manager at work made me feel guilty! Colleague stealing!?

I work for a food supplying company. My colleague and I saw another person we work with take stock home, varying from drinks to crisps etc.

I have only worked for this company 11 months but as part of my job is stock so I thought I should mention it to management to make them aware, as everyone is wondering why our stock is down a lot. I ended up having to have a meeting with them which one of the ‘bosses’ said ‘Do you understanding the consequences of this allegation and that Chris has a family and house to support’ .. Well that was bang out of order. I felt like I was guilt tripped to drop what I said and ignore it. Now my colleague who is just back of holiday said he can’t ‘grass’ or ‘dob’ him in…so I am left looking like a idiot and I genuinely feel like walking out! One of the bosses made me feel so small when he tried mention he has a family, what has that got to do with me?

Was what he said wrong? Who else can I talk to if a boss said that!

Nothing wrong with what he said, he wanted to make sure you really did see him stealing and it was not you trying to get him into trouble.
from now on they will keep an eyes on him.

" ‘Do you understanding the consequences of this allegation and that Chris has a family and house to support’ ." Not you problem, your job or part of your job is stock and you reported what you saw, it is up to the manager how he/she deals with the issue and what he/she does about it..... it is the type of question he/she needs to ask the individual who is doing it ‘Do THEY understanding the consequences of this and ask for their comments" .

If you are in the United States (in some state) here is the problem you ran into. Bosses are afraid to act on what one employee says because it is one person's word against the other. If you are in a "right to work state", they would probably watch the employee and fire him, but in places like California, especially if the person is a woman or minority, employers are afraid of being sued. They are afraid that you may not be telling the truth and then if they fired the person, he would sue for being fired without just cause (or even say it is racial bias.

I know this sounds screwed up, but this is what this recent Obama/Hillary led socialist leaning government and all of the secular liberals have caused to happen. People are being bullied and are very frightened of being sued.

Today the good person gets persecuted, while the bad get breaks all over the place.
