Burden of proof isn't on people to prove to you that God doesn't exist. You can't prove that unicorns and vampires and leprechauns don't exist, but it does seem unlikely, doesn't it? God is even more unlikely.

In my former life as an agnostic I tried to verify the existence of God one way or another and verifiable philosophy and other accepted science left me with far too much evidence that there was a supreme power and it was friendly.
By the way the next time an atheist claims that they can build a positive and loving society and don't need God read the above answers to them. Im sure they will be proud.

Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
