"im pretty sure its on moubtain lion or whatever."

Well, it is included with Mountain Lion, but not with whatever.
In a Finder window, select "Applications" directory. Then hold the "command" key as you press the 3 key. Now you have an alphabetical list. You will find Messages in the middle as you scroll down. It cannot get trashed, because you would see a message like the one below if you even try to trash it.

What version of OS X is currently installed on your MacBook Pro???

If close to the latest version (OS X Yosemite or OS X El Capitan) just look on the App Store (click the black Apple Icon: top left corner of any screen) or in your Finder>Applications Folder for Messages.

Try turning it on and off

You have to update your system. Just make sure it's up to date and you should have it. Install any available updates. I had the same problem.
