Logical explanation for a short, instantaneous streak in the sky? It disappeared as quickly as it came and it made a sharp curve at the end?

Let me begin by saying I do not believe in ghosts or spirits, heaven or hell. However I cannot logically explain what me and my friend both saw (I will be as objective as possible with the facts). We went to Snake Hill (Laurel Hill) in New Jersey which used to be a mass grave sight for the "unknowns" in the community who had no family to claim them when they passed away. 4,500 bodies were discovered and removed in 2002. We explored on Halloween this past weekend and at 2:30 am we began walking back to the car when we saw a bright white streak in the sky almost immediately above us that lasted less than a second. It disappeared as quickly as it came, and it curved at the end as it disappeared. I could not tell how close or far it was from us, although if it was in outer space, it needed to be a tremendously large phenomenon because of how bright it was (brighter than the north star). I also doubt it was a star or comet because of how it suddenly and sharp it curved at the end. So then what did we see? This is not a hoax, this is a very legitimate question for a very baffled and curious man.

You're right that it wasn't a star. Stars don't shoot through the sky like that (the name "shooting star" is a misnomer for a meteor, which is actually a tiny pebble).

Comets have tails, but they don't move perceptably. So anything you saw streaking across the sky certainly wasn't a comet.

It sounds like a meteor. It's not unheard of for a meteor to change direction; what's actually happening is that pieces of it are breaking off and flying in different directions. Sometimes when that happens, only one of the remaining fragments is still glowing, so it looks like the whole thing altered its course.

You saw a shooting star - a meteor... a bit of sand or dust the hit our atmosphere and glowed for a split second, vaporizing in the process.

Space junk, meteorites, Korean missile test, Iranian missile test.
