The first truck weighing 500kg is moving to the right at 4m/s
The second truck weighing 1500kg is moving to the left at 1.5m/s
How do I work out their common velocity after the collision? I know how to work out the momentum of each but my course says that one of the velocities should be negative, but I am a bit confused

If you call going to the right to be positive, then going to the left is negative.
