Hot water smells similar to play dough?

We are having work done on our back house and the workers turned off the water two days ago to connect the pipes and yesterday while I was about to take a shower I noticed the water has this smell like a play dough smell. As well as the sink when the hot water is on. I have noticed it with cold water so I was wondering what it could be . We had a leak in the water heater but I believe it was fixed. Can I still shower?
