Waiting on spaying appointment next week - any way to delay my dog going into 1st heat?

I have a 3 pound female Pomeranian, born on March 10. She is 7 months and a half old now. I wasn't planning on getting her spayed, except overwhelming information on the benefits of spaying. I called first thing today (Monday morning), the earliest appointment I could get for an appointment is next Wednesday, which she would nearly be 8 months old.

I'm very scared that she would go into heat before the procedure. Is there any way to delay her going into heat for 9 days?

If it's not, how bad is it to spay after her first heat? (Or during?)

Update: I made an appointment with a vet, who's doctor has been doing surgery for 30 years - I'm sure I can get an earlier appointment somewhere else however the reviews and experience of the doctors just aren't AS good as the vet I chosen. Is it worth going to another place to do it earlier? Thank you and I appreciate all answers.

No there isn't although at one point there was a pill (subsequently withdrawn from circulation as there were side effects). If she does come in before the surgery date, then you'll just have to reschedule it for 2 months after the season ends. And make absolutely certain you keep her safe throughout the 21 days she will be in season. Actually some vets prefer a b itch to have one season before being spayed, although that's more usual with medium to large breeds.

There are more risks involved with being spayed when in season but letting her have one season - no problem in terms of being spayed sooner rather than later - if you are thinking about the increased risk of a female cancer if spaying is delayed. One season won't affect that.

well you could have surgery done TODAY. (plenty of vets and clinics with little business)

No.

Nope. She hasn't had a heat yet? Nothing wrong with doing it after the first heat, just keep her away from all intact dogs until she is done.

Nothing you can do about heat. She most likely won't go into heat quite yet. If she does, they will still spay her safely. It may take a bit longer, and they may add a small fee because of that. The recovery time tends to be exactly the same for in-heat spays. vet tech

If she comes into heat, delay surgery. There is no good reason to proceed while she is in heat and you should wait until at least a month after she has finished.
