a large wedge with mass 10 kg rests on a frictionless surface. a block of mass 5 kg starts from rests and slides down the inclined surface of the wedge, which is rough. at one instant the wedge is moving with a speed of 3 m/s. at that instant the horizontal component of the velocity of block is what?

Horizontal momentum is conserved.initial p = final p
0 = 10kg * 3m/s + 5kg * v
v = -6 m/s
The negative means "in the direction opposite the wedge."
