During Solar Max, the sun is more likely to produce solar flares and Coronal Mass Ejections, which, if directed at our planet, can affect our magnetic field. The flexing of our magnetic field can cause power surges and blackouts on our electrical supplies; the ions in the CME can affect satellites and probes, and if we ever have explorers beyond Earth orbit, they will need to take safety precautions.
