(a)Draw all the possible isomers for the molecular formula of C4H10O .Also give the IUPAC of each isomer .

(b) Deduce the structure(s) of the isomer(s) based on the following reactions. (i) One or more of the above isomers(s) in (a) will show the dehydration reaction which gives a mixture of hydrocarbons A and B and each product contains 85.7% C. What are the possible isomer(s)? (ii) One or more of the above isomers(s) in (a) will show oxidation reaction with acidified potassium dichromate solution . What are the possible isomer(s)?

#1 CH3CH2CH2CH2OH - Butan-1-ol
#2 CH3CH2CH(OH)CH3 - Butan-2-ol
#3 CH3CH(CH3)CH2OH - 2-methyl propan-1-ol
#4 CH3C(OH)(CH3)CH3 - 2-methyl propan-2-ol

The method to draw different isomers is: -
#1 draw out the maximum carbon chain .
#2 then add the given functional group to each separate carbon in the chain.
#3 Then shorten the chain by one carbon. Place the functional group at the end of the chain , and the displaced carbon on to an 'internal' carbon of the chain.
#4 Finally add the given functional group to each carbon in the chain.
