To stay alive, I would lie through my teeth and say "I am desperately looking for a new religion, can you help me join yours?" Perhaps this would save my life.

If you pointed a gun at me, I'd try to escape or disarm you with what martial arts knowledge I know. If you want to know my religion, just ask and I'll tell you I'm a Christian and if you don't like the answer then you can do the shooting.

I would say my religion, because there are 2 things would happen after that:
1 He will put down his gun
2 I will be in heaven with my Creator :)

In the few seconds I would have to think about it, I would try to determine, just by nuance (looking at them) what kind of response would diffuse their anger.

If I don't believe... in those few seconds... that such a response is attainable or that I have sufficiently come up with a good guess... I would tell them that it's none of their business and prepare.

Or, 3rd scenario, I would lunge at them before they're even finished asking and sacrifice my life on behalf of others in harm's way... and maybe live through it.

I don't advise anyone to follow these hypotheticals. These are just my own instincts, and who knows how it would actually play out.

Nothing, the threat of being shot if I gave an answer they were unhappy with would render me speechless. Then if I got chance I would say the religion of 'wondering' I am wondering why are you pointing a gun at me!?

When I saw the gun I'd lose all rational thought. I would then take actions I never decided to take, but just watch in shock and awe. If all goes as it has in the past, the gunman would be disarmed and I would still have nothing resembling words or speech at my disposal.

But he'd still be religiously insane. There's nothing I can do about that.

I recently watched the old Bulgarian movie "Time of violence" (Vreme Razdelno aka Vreme na nasilie) which concerns the forced conversion of southern Bulgarians to Islam in the 17th century. It has great personal significance for me as I used to live amongst these same Bulgarian Muslims. It's propaganda, at the time it was made, the Bulgarian Muslim minority were being violently persecuted in an attempt to make them drop their faith and adopt slavic names (the Bulgarian church was tolerated under communism for political reasons). The history given in the movie is disputed. That said, it's a very powerful movie which I strongly recommend.

After a lot of death, rape and torture, the village priest (a gentle but rather mentally fragile soul) is sitting in a cave in the mountains with the traumatised refugees, anticipating death by cold and starvation when winter sets in, when he has a revelation: (I'm paraphrasing here).

"I don't know if God is called Christ or Allah", he says, "but as He gave us the gift of life, I'm pretty sure He doesn't want us to kill each other over the issue. Also, if anyone is going to be burning in hell as a result of this tragedy, I'm fairly certain it isn't going to be us"

And with that he leads most of the villagers down from the mountain (excepting a few fanatical guerrillas) and they all convert to Islam.

Whether he is a pragmatist or a coward depends on your point of view. I was struck by the irony that he converted to Islam because it was the most Christian thing to do.

Asking "what's the correct answer?" would be a good idea

It's very difficult to know how we would respond in such a situation. I'm a Christian and would certainly tell the gunman that. I would be terrified though.
Regarding the Priest from the film you described- Converting to Islam to save their lives would be something he should have got guidance from the Holy Spirit about. Maybe it was the right decision or not but he shouldn't of consoled himself with the thought that if anyone was going to burn it wasn't going to be them. Going to Hell isn't a punishment decided after judgement as we understand it. It is a point of compatibility. God is Love. If you're not Love God can't meet you. Christians believe that we can never be Love enough to join with God so it's necessary to do it through Christ. Christians believe to give up on Christ is to end up in Hell no matter the circumstance as his sacrifice is the essential component.

There are way too many active shooters in U.S.
If this ever happens in Movie theaters, schools, malls, wherever. Do NOT talk. That's dumb. There's a 99% chance the victim will be killed if they talk. Shooters rely on fear. If you comfront them, attack them, yell thing like "u sick fuc*" they'll likely kill themselves. If not be then beat them until they're paralyzed. Bring some kind of weapons with u everywhere I dont care what any one says. You can use a pen, pencil, keychain, knife and more as a weapon. Don't think "Well What if I'm caught with it" How about if your caught weapon-less.
So Depending on the distance I would probably save time by yelling "There are police behind you" then I would run like hell and hit him in the head multiple times till he was unable to move.

Just say that you're agnostic and would like to join their religion just to stay alive instead of telling the truth. Most likely, the person who points a gun at you and ask for your religion is probably a muslim so you can just say you're becoming a muslim. Because Muslims hate Christians. Seems like that's how it is these days.
