I don't understand how to solve this differentiation question?

It's in 2 parts. The first tells me to differentiate ln(x^2+1)/x. The answer is:

..... 2 ....... − .. ln(x^2+1)
———— ... —————
(x^2 +1) ............ x^2

Then the next part is:

Given than x = tan y, show that dy/dx = 1/(1+x^2).

I don't know how?

✔ 最佳答案
tan y = x = x / 1
cos y = 1 / √( 1 + x^2 )
cos^2 y = 1 / ( 1 + x^2 )

x = tan y
dx / dx = d tan y / dx
1 = sec^2 y * dy/dx
dy/dx = 1 / sec^2 y = cos^2 y = 1 / ( 1 + x^2 )

Q.E.D.
