POLL: Equestrians!! How many of you fit this non-equestrian stereotype?
"all horse riders are such snobby, nasty people who think they're better than everyone else"
"they need to get off their high horse" "Equestrians are some of the worst people I have ever met" how many of you Equestrians (honestly) fit this stereotype?

LOL! I do not, but I know some think I do, especially here. It's all in the perception, which often bears little relation to the truth.
In my 36+ years around horses and horse people, I've met a few that meet that stereotype.
Just a few.
In that same period of time, outside of the world of horse people, I've met a few stuck-up snobs, as well.
If I had to compare, I'd say that there are more jerks among the non-equestrians than among the equestrians. Something about spending time around horses, I think. Coming from an "old money" family doesn't seem to impress a horse.
first off... "Equestrians" is a misnomer. We bred and sold high end Arab colts for several years... from a place most folks in Rolls Royce cars could not get up the driveway. Those buyers sent barn managers.. and those hired hands were full of them selves.
Most back yard folks are ok... do it your self kind of folks. The only snobs I cant tolerate are those Fair and 4H level folks who buy a pushbutton $12000 horse for the little barn witch who promptly judges higher than the little kid who actually trained her $1000 project horse who does ranch work daily.
The snobs don't even know who they are... your question is invalid from the basis it's presented
I wouldn't say so. In fact I've been pretty lucky where all the horsey people and owners I've met are all very kind sharing and nasty with the exception of a few bratty young girls.
I think it sometimes is that way because with horses, there seems to be ALOT of jealously. People want to prove their horse is better or their horse has the best stuff or is best looked after. They all want to spoil their horses or prove they know more therefore they are a better horse owner. In reality most people are all amazing horse owners. As long as their horses are happy and we put their well being first then it doesn't matter. Unfortunately that brings out the worst in people.
Also horses aren't cheap. I think people are scared to admit that sometimes they can't afford something (which is totally fine) and therefore they lash out
Thane, you need to be careful about stealing the work of other members on here. I mean that quite seriously. It is grounds to have your membership revoked, if the YA editors take notice of it. And I don't fit into either one of the "stereotypes" you've listed here.
To be fair, people may say that they're genuinely lovely people and be ignorant to how they really behave. So realistically no one can answer that one.
I'm a rider, and many other riders I know are nice people. There are stereotypes for everything and everyone, so I try to not be affected by how people judge me based on what I look like or the things that I do. But there will be people who match this stereotype, it's just that it doesn't fit all riders.
DO YOU MEAN English riders? And have you met any Western riders who still ride
the traditional old time style AND do NOT stick their noses in the air as "better than thou
attitude" I bet you hav'nt have you?? I'm not one those asshole stereotypes, ma'am!
And IF you had met me you would understand this!

"Equestrians are some of the worst people I have ever met" - I was the one who wrote that on the other thread and I've been an equestrian for almost two decades.
