Some of you are taking this all wrong, yes, I agree the depth of life is what matters. I would rather have a shorter live that is rich with meaningful experiences, and love and learning, than a very long life where I don't really have that many experiences that teach me anything, or meet any people that teach me

Define depth. I think to say Shakespeare's life has depth and Joe Schmoe's doesn't is elitist nonsense.

Every life has depth, so what are you really measuring?

I would say it's the length of the depth of life...

Yes indeed, as length of experience gives us much less compared to what width and depth of experience can give.... the same things experienced for years on and on can not match a new experience even if it lasts for a few hours only.

Well you are talking about the compassion of people, how they aim to achieve inner strength of greatness, right?
The depth of life is almost like inner strength. If you have faith, I am sure you can make an impact on the world around you. If the impact is so great, then the depth of life increases. Now, we do not talk about the length because you are here and now, and time is an illusion, according to Einstein.

Hard for a three year old dying of cancer to have depth. Or a 23 year old.

True, to achieve a good depth of life one will need some length, but that can vary. A simple long life does not mean anything. Very much so in this case - length does not matter.

It is a sentence.

Philosophically speaking if you analyze it from worldly materialistic angle, the depth of life counts a lot, whereas if you analyze it from philosophical angle, the length of life is given highest predominance and emphasis. In a short life U & I can not achieve anything and enjoy life with family, friends and children or grand-children. That is the problem.

The former is considered a discovery and later one is considered an invention.

Both are equal for confused people, but different in nature.

In the cosmic sense, both length and depth are co-ordinate. Our potentially eternal careers give us the opportunity to deepen our understanding of Deity, to achieve perfection. Eternity is a great "length" and by experiencing it we grow deeper in life. The law is life.

It is not the length of life, but the depth of life?

~~~ Perhaps you should ask someone on 'death row'?
His opinion will be different than the mystic.
It is just opinion...
