key to saving money is firstly to determine to do so

I know that sounds a little trite but its a step many people miss :)

now for the strategy

it will vary a little for each person but key is to be consistent

open a separate savings account - many banks have internet savings accounts you can just add to your existing account that dont have fees - some even offer better interest rates if you only deposit and dont withdraw each month

now, to determine how much youre willing to save

intelligently work out what youre committed to spend each week - be sure to add a little to spend on some random purchases to avoid having to cheat yourself in days, weeks and months to come

take the amount you need to spend away from what you earn - now you have a number .. is It $20, $30, $50 a week?

commit to saving that amount every week - you must never save less though you can save more sometimes if you end up with an excess THOUGH - I am a fan of not putting that extra into the savings account rather stash any extra in the cupboard - that "extra" can be a separate savings for emergencies - if it does get too big, you may decide to put some into your locked savings

now .. the really hard part

how to not withdraw your savings

its easy when it comes to a new pair of shoes or a concert ticket .. you just say to yourself NO

for other situations, it can be harder .. lose your phone? friend in desperate need of a loan?

you will be tempted to withdraw but right now say NO .. I am saving for a particular goal

anyway

its all about a plan and a little self discipline

get this sorted now and your life will be infinitely better in every respect

good luck

I don't have a lot of background information on what you spend your money on, so I am not too sure. However I would suggest looking over everything you spend your money on, like for instance my family used to order out a lot and since we cut back we save at least 20-40 dollars a week. Just anything you don't need. We have needs and wants, so basically the things that are wants will be the things you can cut back on. I do suggest you keep something you enjoy though because I remember cutting back on things I loved and it just made me depressed. You can try getting more work days or just find another job, 7.25 doesn't seem like a lot but work it work.

If you get cable TV, stop doing so. Shop at a cheaper grocery store (e.g. Aldi). We can't answer your question because you haven't provided your expenses.

Get another job or eat the rabbit.

I don't know how much you pay for your phone but you should own your own phone. Go to Glyde or Gazelle and buy a good used phone - not the new model. That's about $200 to $300. Then get a prepaid service - AT&T is $40 per month and Straight Talk (Verizon cell towers) is $45 per month.
