If there was only good, and no evil, it would not be considered good, it would just be normal. Since there is no contradiction between on or the other, there would be no making choices, and it would be everyday life to live in.
Say there was suddenly no evil. What would this be? Can we say good if there is no opposite to good? Can we say, "don't do that."? It would make no sense without evil, for you are leading the person away from making a decision. There would be a one way path, and having the other way be impossible.
This is a very confusing subject, for good is only a title for something not done incorrectly. How you reach it is how you actually try.
A good point is some people say that there should be no evil in the world. There are many car robberies, bank robberies, credit card frauds, and they want none of it. But look at the other side of this. Most of the people that do this are caught and punished by law. There are examples for children of what not to do, bringing a sense of consequence into their life. If there was only good, then there would be no examples of wrongdoings. There would be nothing to talk about in news channels. It would just be happiness, which, while nice, can lead to tedious days and uneventful nights.

It holds good even now.

Good and evil are separate spirits. They have separate characters. Between good and evil there are lot more. When you see people you think what would be their character but when I see people I think what would be their spirits. In this world what you have for your own is only one thing, that is mind. Each and everyone has one mind. Only this mind chooses the spirits. This mind is just a computer's mind. Several softwares form the mind of a computer. You cannot see this mind after the destruction of a computer completely. The same is the case with the human beings.
A mind which is empty on birth is filled gradually with knowledge, skills, feelings, interests etc. It's all according to your mind's desires. The sources for this knowledge and other things are parents, teachers, friends, news papers, books, videos, tv etc. Whatever it is and however it is these things form a nature. The nature is a character. When a character merges with a mind and reaches a unchangeable stage it’s become a nature. The feelings that merged during childhood never change so easily. It attains the state of a nature.
There has to be evil so that goodness can rise above it- Buddha
In essence, evil is an illusion. There is only love even if you cannot see it.
Noone is 100% evil. At any given time, everyone is doing the best they can and doing what they have been taught. Is everything we have been taught true? No, because it does not reflect the reality of Source Energy. A person who kills his son and sacrifices it to his god is sometimes led to believe he is doing the right thing. So what we know about "evil" is an illusory concept. Think about it.
Nothing in this universe can be 100% evil. Everyone is trying to reconnect with the calling of love within them. Often, they have lost the way. To merely WANT to do the right thing even if you are not doing the right thing means you do have a deep stream of love within you; it is just that you have lost touch with it. You have not surrendered to it. You have not accepted it. Peoples' minds play tricks on them. We are all connected. We all come from love and we return to love. It's that simple. If a person who kills and is led to believe he is doing good by doing so, is his action good or evil? To him, it is good; to the world; it is evil because it has caused more harm than it did liberation and love. So good and evil are just a game. If we can erase this concept more and more of good and evil in our heads, then we can liberate ourselves and stop judging ourselves. Ultimately, nothing can be completely 100% evil because everything runs according to Source (God) and everything serves some kind of purpose whether we understand it or not.
Robin Hood gave to rich to give to the poor. Was he Good or Evil? I'll let you decide for yourself. (= In the end, God can judge. And when we feel close to Him; we are in a state of love. The more we act from love, the happier people around us our. But if our decisions are made from fear and our mind is telling us what we are doing is good, then are we really going to be happy.
There is a saying from Buddha, "If you truly love yourself, you would never hurt another."
Put it this way, what defines something as good or evil? Take the analogy of light vs darkness respectively. Can light exist on its own? Light is an active state, it can get brighter and it can dimmer. But can it be dark and light at the same time? What distinguishes light fron darkness is the mere abscence of light. Because light is really the only thing that exists in this case. You can have a dark room, apply light and it can get brighter and brighter if u choose. But can darkness get darker and darker? No. Just like good and evil. Life only exits if their is good because what is good favors the prosperity of life. When there is no good, their is evil, evilness is anything that is against supporting life. Just like darkness there is no amount of evilness that one could do that surpasses death. Evilness in a sense leads to death the same way the gradual absence of light leads to darkness. So can good exist without evil, yes obvcoars however in todays world it seems immpossible.
There is no doubt that the battle between good and evil seems to have been going on since the world began, but in a “natural” world a caring God seems to take second place. However, as the question implies, it would appear that the evil we see round about us stimulates the concept that there must be some power for good to which an appeal can be made. There is also the notion at the root of religion that the world is the creation of a 'good' power, but, somehow, evil has managed to gain access. Some claim that a mistake was made initially by God when he allowed humans to have a certain amount of freewill.
There is nothing good or bad intrinsically. Thinking makes it so. Besides this is a matter of self interest. What is good to one may be bad to others. Evil is also good to the evil persons. For the evil, good are evil. Hence it is futile to ask whether good can exist without evil.
I think this is more of an opinion question but... In my opinion good can exist without evil. People might not notice the good without evil but that doesn't mean it's not there. I know I'm probably not using the right words but I think the absence of something else cannot take away what you're talking about unless it has a direct relation to methods of it being taken away.
I have to declare , that good cannot exist without evil in a worldly sense, because of the fallen nature of mankind .So being good without evil intent will be laid aside if , and if, and in this statement is far reaching ,and that is, if you recognise that man has a sinful nature and humbly acknowledge that God exists, then good can & will negate the evil that abounds in this world . OK some ,in fact most will say but good exists even if I won't or cannot except a God that allows all manners of evil events , but ,and there is a big but here, that the Lord is the creator of God of good , not evil , and when we ,as humans except that , then at least you will know that good can come out , with evil firmly pushed aside ...Though we all try to be good , evil can be present in most situations whereas folk lose their temper , where would be the good intent of responding to , for instance road rage! An example of evil ,replacing good ... A soft word turns away wrath , evil can then , if you like be turned on it's head .. The Lord God knows our thoughts before we utter evil things , try to understand that God wants us all to love & respect each other , but sadly most let their mouths vomit out evil thoughts straight from the heart ... Next time that any of you feel aggrieved try the option of turning wrath away and respond in a positive way , It works ...
Yes.
If we did not have a concept or understanding of evil then everything and everyone would be 'good'. The only difference is that we'd lack appreciation for the 'good' world we live in because we wouldn't know any other way.
'Good' would still exist, it just wouldn't be obvious or unique to us anymore since we'd have nothing to contrast/compare it with.
I believe this is a part of the reason that 'evil' exists in the first place. How could we love and deeply appreciate what's 'good' if we never experience 'evil'?
