Organic compounds are carbon-containing compounds except the oxides of compounds (i.e. carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide) and simple ionic compounds containing carbon (e.g. carbonates, hydrogencarbonates, cyanides, cyanates, thiocyanates and carbides).
