Which is more intellegent? Dogs or cats?

Cats! We train dogs, but cats train us! I think it is pretty smart to have figured out how to do that!

Cats have evolved PAST the status of needing some else to tell them what to do..now, you tell me...which is smarter.

Scientists who have tried to study this very question all have the same opinion. At that opinion is that cats make lousy research subjects.

You see, the mere independence of cats, in comparison to dogs, makes them very, very difficult to work with. They are not pack animals like dogs are. They MIGHT decide to cooperate with your experiment, or they might decide they just don't give a crud.

I have two cats that have both learned to play fetch. In fact, they both more or less just invented the game on their own.

But they will only play when THEY feel like it. They aren't dogs. Throw the toy when they don't feel like playing, and they will just look at it and go back to sleep. They play when THEY want to play.

The same thing with trying to do behavioral experiments with cats. Sometimes, they just don't WANT to. And at those times, you can forget it.

Well, dogs are not as wild as cats due to genetic reproduction. Dogs are still pack animals and want/need a leader. Cats have not evolved to that status. They are closer to the wild gene pool. They don't need a leader. Now, you tell me who is smarter? Cats can survive on their own, dogs need packs?

Dogs are approximately 2-3 times as "intelligent" as cats, based on their verbal and non-verbal comprehension, learning ability, and problem-solving skills. A cat's brain is about the size of the inside of a walnut. I love cats, but their just not that bright overall.
