My current hamster is gasping for air?

take your hamster to the vet asap. can you look down his or her throat to see if any food is caught?

it could be a number of things why your hamster is having a hard trouble breathing, is he or she exercising at all, eating properly, etc?

but, i would take it to the vet. call a local vet to get their hours of operation and see if you can make an appointment today.

It might be in heart failure or pneumonia, not sure. How old is your Hamster? Do you keep it in pine or cedar shavings, if so don't those are very hard on the respiratory areas like the lungs. Use pellets or shredded news paper.A Vet check is in order. Good Luck!
