My dog has seizures every time he smells a smoother dog in heat?

We try to avoid going around other dogs in heat because my dog has seizures and it triggers it. My mom is assume my landlord often and my landlords dog went into heat. My mom doesn t let the dog get on her but I told her the smell can still get in her clothes from long exposure. One of my cats climbed into my mom s purse and it made my dog go nuts trying to hump the cat. We re bathed the car and it still happens. He gets to excited and that caused his seizures to. What can I do to limit the smells that trigger him? He s my baby so he stays in my room a lot, he s 8 and a chihuahua.

Stress can cause a dog with epilepsy to have a seizure but there is medication to control this. Yes, castration might help, but at his age and with his history of having seizures this may well not be possible. In any case it really only prevents him siring litters of puppies - not not reacting to a b itch in season necessarily. Castrated males can still hump, and even tie with a b itch in season.

I'd get on top of this fitting - via medication.

ps I do wish people with non-breeding/show quality pet bitches would get them SPAYED so they don't keep upsetting any entire male around.

If your dog is having seizures, please remember that there are anti-seizure medications.

He's not having seizures he's excited and wanting to mate. Get him NEUTERED. Why the hell haven't you?

The dogs needs to be ON medication (there are a number of types or mixes of two) to help CONTROL the seizures. Seizures can cause brain damage esp IF the dog begins to have one after another (cluster seizures). You need to have some valium (in supossitory form) handy, in case of such an emergency. Just trying to avoid his "triggers" is NOT always possible, as you see. A change in diet (to raw feeding & filtered water) can also help reduce his trigger threshold.

"smoother dog"? Avoidance, immediate correction, vet for proper treatment for the seizures, neutering, etc.
