You can get the insurance from the rental company as part of the package. And since you don't have a primary auto policy, you'd be wise to buy their 'full' coverage. It's expensive as hell, but pay for it anyway.

No, you cannot purchase insurance for a one time use for an auto you do not own. You must purchase the coverage from the rental car company to cover yourself in case of an accident.

The rental company will offer cover to suit your needs for as long as you rent the car. Remember what you don't insure against you pay for should things to wrong. I prefer to have 'bring it back in a box' cover.

The rental agency is keen on selling you their own. If you have a credit card where that's included, even better.
