There are two geraniols.
The one with a long chain is (2E)-3,7-Dimethyl-2,6-octadien-1-ol .
The one with a closed ring is (5S)-3-Methyl-5-propyl- 2-cyclohexen-1-one
The Merck Index only tells about the long chain, so that must be the more common one.
