Possible laser eye injuries?

This may be the incorrect place to ask this and is actually quite silly. While I was at cvs and there is a little kiosk where you out your number for coupons and there is a laser scanner point down through the glass to scan products . There a bunch of little small lasers, I looked at it twice for a few seconds and showed my younger sister. But my question is can it injure you. She says her eyes burn a little and my left eye hurts a bit but I don't think we started directly because i don't know if there was a glass in between or that was directly it. I know this a really dumb question but I feel bad for showing my 13 year old sister and was wondering if it could hurt our eyes. She bent over to look at it a little but I'm just a little concerned because I feel responsible . Anything helps thanks.

You don't want to stare at it for a long time, that's for sure.

But it's a low-power laser, and the beam is actually scanning (with mirrors on a motor), so it's only pointed directly at you very briefly during the scan.

You didn't hurt your sister's eyes, and you didn't hurt your eyes.

(And there are no dumb questions.)
