I'm guessing he is now all alone? There's your answer.

If you keep him alone, then I would agree that it may stem from that. Horses are herd animals and need company, keeping them alone can make many anxious and upset. Some horses can cope alone, but many don't.

Hes probably not used to being by himself, try turning him out where he spooks and possibly try a calming supplement from smartpak

He doesn't know the new area. What else could it be? What else would you do but get him used to the place? If you want predictable toy, buy an ATV. Horses have feelings.

Agreeing with Partly Cloudy; a companion animal might help. Other possible reasons:

If he was a "lesson horse", he's probably used to more exercise than he's getting as a private horse. He may also need an adjustment in his feed.

It just takes time, even going from one barn to another, they can be jumpy for a month or more. Just spend time with him and work through it.

Also, if he's all alone on the property that can be an issue too. Get something else, a mini or a goat.

He is likely missing a big field of turnout and buddies to play with. The 23 hours of the day you aren't on his back are super important to his well being and his attitude for the 1 hour you might interact with him during the day. He needs companionship and to be able to play.
