The french fries taste horrible. They are cooked with cottonseed oil and have a cardboard like flavor in addition to being cut to short and overcooked.
The burger buns are dry and the cheese and meat is flavorful. The slices of onion and tomato are too thick so when you bite into them your burger pulls apart and gets all sloppy as you pull away.
The fountain's are the best thing at least they offer something unique for a fast food fountain: the inclusion of 7-up but this isnt enough to save In N Out.
Why is In N Out burger so popular when it sucks so bad?

In N Out is an experience.
Maybe I'm biased because of California blood, but it's better than any fast food in the state.
They need to bring it to Colorado.

The quality control outside of California is worse than the quality control inside of California so it matters where you had your meal.
Your description of the burger sounds to me like you are raving about how good it was.
The fries are an issue. A lot of people like them under done but more like them crispy. The key is to specify "well done" when ordering fries. I have no idea why they don't usually cook them crispy and have an option to order them rare instead.
My usual take when someone complains about a chain known for its quality - I wonder if you are a shill for some other brand or if you just don't like burgers in general.

We like it because they hire nice clean cut kids to work there, not the usual dirty thugs.
