Does the invention of the home 3d printer/miller invalidate gun control legislation?

If you can make a gun, what is the point of screening purchasers anymore? I think ita time to address the culture of violence, the fear, the perceived need for lethal weapons to reduce violence.

Well - fear...on whose part? Not the gun owner - he's prepared. The home owner whose house is invaded and is unarmed? Yes; he's fearful.
'Perceived need'? If the need is not real, why do we have 600,000 armed police? Citizens face the same situations as cops do.

People have always had the ability to make their own guns.

And bullets.

Yes. The power now resides where the Founders intended it, and where it rightfully belongs...with the People

Big Government will not trample our rights any longer

And the technology is improving daily....

Well, have you seen the quality of the weapon a 3-D printer makes? Any guy with a drill press in his garage and an afternoon can make a superior weapon. In fact, it might be a good idea to buy a stock of 3/8ths drill bits.

You can make a single shot shot gun easily with items purchased from home depot

Completely irrelevant.

The only effect 3D printers (for plastics) have in relation to guns is idiots adding to the Darwin awards.

Anyone that has the knowledge and inclination can make a crude gun from easily available metal parts, or if they have access to machine tools they can create copies of standard guns; many designs exist.

Laws exist to punish people who mis-use weapons of any type.

And criminals don't obey laws, so "gun control" only affect law-abiding people.

Not yet.

The technology is still in it's infancy.

But I'm hopeful that with improvements in the technology, and innovative designs using that technology, that within 10 years it will be easy for anyone to print themselves up some freedom!

I'm hopeful that soon, a 3D printer can print in a high strength polymer, coupled with some off the shelf parts, can make a perfectly serviceable gun.

Try to make one and fire it. Be sure to link a live stream so we can watch you blow yourself up.

You can make guns at home without a 3d printer, but few, if any, criminals choose to do so.

In terms of current 3d printing technology it's just not there yet to make a gun which is a real problem. A year or two ago someone did come out with plans for a 3d printed gun, but the thing was a piece of junk, really just a proof of concept. It was a single shot weapon. Not single shot as in you shoot it and then have to reload it. Firing the gun actually destroyed its ability to be fired again. And 3d printers are still fairly expensive and the printing is very time consuming.
