Could this hose not being connected be why the bike doesn't have compression?

Sorry, I don't know much about the mechanics of dirt bikes. The big hose coming from the caburetor (don't know the name of it) isn't connected to whatever it's supposed to be connected to on the left side. I hear air coming from it when I try to kick start it. I'm guessing this is where I'm losing compression? What do I do about it? The bike is a 2001 Yamaha TTR-125. Thanks!

If you have no compression it isn't from from vertical hose, that's a breather tube, it's suppused to just hang there loose.
The compression loss is from some other cause, either a warped valve or weak piston rings. If you can hear air coming FROM the carb when you kick it over than it's most likely a crappy valve.

If it was unhooked long enough, and you sucked in a lot of dirt, it could have ruined the rings....low/no compression.

Always give year, make and model #
Everything is different.
If the engine is 4 stroke, the vertical hose may be the cylinder head breather hose.
Follow the hose up to see where it is connected to.
If the hose attaches to the engine near the top, it is a breather hose.
You will hear a little noise from it.
That will not have any correlation to cylinder compression loss.
Cylinder compression loss is due to worn cylinder, piston & rings and leaking intake & exhaust valves.

Asses the cylinder / piston compression with a compression tester. The compression test will tell you the state of your piston wear, ring wear, and valve seat tightness. If you do not have adequate cylinder compression it will not matter were or what hose you hear the sound in or at.

When you do the compression test make sure the motor is warmed up into operating temperature and prop the throttle open with the spark plug wires removed from spark plug.

That big ribbed tube leading to the back of the carb is the route that air takes from the airbox to the carb. It is not the source of your problem.

The intake hose or the one that is vertical? Either way it won't affect compression but it could be the cause of a vacuum leak.j

NO, ...It's not the cause
