The population of predators and prey in a closed ecological system tends to vary periodically over time. In a certain system, the population of snakes S can be represented by S = 100+20sin(pi/5 t)where t is the number of years since January 1, 2008 same system, the population of rats can be represented by R = 200 +75 sin(pi/5 t + pi/10)
b. What is the maximum snake population? (100?)
c. When is the maximum population first reached?
d. What is the minimum rat population? (75?)
e. When is the minimum population first reached?

There is a time lag between population curves. More rats mean more snakes. Too many snakes means fewer rats. Fewer rats means fewer snakes. Fewer snakes eat fewer rats. Less rats eaten means more rats. More rats means more snakes.
