Im 17 and babysit my younger brother, and he's very short tempered, violent, and he swears. He's 11. He's pulled knives on me, threatened me, and has given me a black eye and bruises on more than one occasion, I've tried to talk to my mom about this, and she knows about how he is, but she won't do anything about it? I'm scared I'm going to get hurt...

Then talk to other adults, until you find one who will help.
Clearly, your brother needs mental health treatment.
Tell your school counselor, teachers, other relatives, anyone who might be able to reason with your mother about his need for treatment.
And do NOT sit for him any more. Just tell your mother that it is not worth dying for, to "babysit" him.

Like the others said here don't babysit anymore. If you have to go to a friends house or call a relative and tell them what's happening and that you're scared. But under no circumstances do not let yourself be alone with him ever again. And your parents playing stork and pretending there isn't a problem are just as bad as he is and are creating a future criminal. And leaving you alone with him is putting you in danger and could be grounds for them getting charged with neglect. Seriously if you have to call the cops.

this kind of behaviour is not right for a 11 year old.
is your father with you? you have to inform him about this.
you have to talk with your mother and suggest taking him to a counsellor or a therapist.
if this anger issues are left uncontrolled it could lead to serious problems in the future.
you have to refuse to babysit as it concerns your own safety.

talk to someone in cps about it, maybe they can help you so you dont have to live with him
