Like dissolves like.
Propan-ol (CH₃CH₂-OH) and water (H-OH) are miscible because hydrogen bonds are formed between -OH groups.
Propan-ol (CH₃CH₂-OH) and cyclohexane (C₆H₁₂) are miscible because of the van der Waals forces formed between hydrocarbon chains.
Water (H-OH) and cyclohexane (C₆H₁₂) are immiscible because water does not contain hydrocarbon chain and cyclohexane cannot formed hydrogen bond with water.
Propan-2-ol miscible with water
cyclohexane immiscible in water
water and cyclohexane together - as above immiscible will separate into 2 layers.
