What's a good way to make friends in an area you are new to?

I'm 19 and I recently moved to a bigger city and I grew up in a small town. I work in sales and I'm one of the youngest people in workplace so there aren't a lot of people in my age group. I'd like to find friends here and possibly a relationship, but I'm not sure how to meet people. I don't want to go out if I don't any friends to go out with and no one you meet while going out is looking for a friendship/ relationship they're looking for a hookup. I have severe depression and want someone to help me get out of my house or someone to talk to, who is genuinely a friend but I have no idea how to meet people like that. Any advice?

I know there's a site called meetup.com which probably has lots of people in the same boat as you. I've never tried it myself, but it might be worth a shot.

Firstly your depression might be a problem so I suggest you deal with that. While you are online do an online search for::
"Faster E.F.T" . (Short for faster emotionally focused transformations.)
You'll find that technique very good for you.There's an online forum,how to videos,etc.
As for making friends you just chat with your work friends and say hello to customers for a start. Strike up a conversation with people and start chatting.
You could join a local church group.You should look up support groups,etc as well. There are books on social skills to help you with that problem. What interests/hobbies have you got? You could find people with similar interests.
As for relationships you should think about books on dating.There are plenty books for girls. I think these might be of interest to you:
1)"For Young Women Only". By Shaunti Feldhahn.
2)"Its Not Him,Its You". By Christie Hartman.
3)"Be Your Own Dating Coach". By Jo Hemmings.
4)"Love Will Find You". By Kathryn Alice.
5)"The Little Black Book Of Big Red Flags". By Natasha Burton.
6)"If I'm So Wonderful,Why Am I Still Single?" By Susan Page.
Those books will help sort out your love life.

Call the city's Parks & Recreation office. It's their job to know all the social activities going on in their town. They can point you in the right direction and tell you some good places to meet people with similar interests.
