since density , d in g/ml = mass , grams / volume in ml , so volume , in ml = mass ( 147 grams ) / density ( 1.020g/ml ) = 144.1176471mL

Apply the definition of density :
----------------------------------------

d = m / V

V = m / d

V = ( 147 g ) / ( 1.020 g/mL )

V = 144.1 mL <-------------------------------

147 g / 1.020 g/ml) = 144 mL

147g * (1 ml/1.020g) = 144.1 ml

Set it up so the g unit cancel and all you are left with are ml.

volume

= mass / density

= (147 g) / (1.020 g/mL)

= 144 mL
