Baby weighs 5 pounds at 31 weeks, 2 days pregnant ?!?!?

I just had my last ultrasound to measure my baby's growth and he is in the 84th percentile weighing 5 pounds, the doctor said that he is too big and said that he is 3 weeks ahead of his growth. I'm really worried and concerned, scared and terrified. I don't know what to say or what to think. What causes big babies?
The doctor said gestational diabetes is the cause 9 times out of 10 and I didn't have that test yet. But I checked my blood sugar and it was at 71? What complications can come with having a big baby and should I be this upset and concerned?! He's in the fetal position with his head down.
If he continues growing this quickly, will I be induced? Will he come early? Will I have a vaginal birth or a csection? Any information provided would help... Please help

I would be very concerned about a doctor who claimed not only to know the weight of a baby in utero, but one who also jumped straight to GD without any indication.

I think your worry is misplaced. Your baby sounds fine. Your doctor, unfortunately, sounds like a hack.

Ultrasounds are not an accurate way to estimate fetal weight. They can be off by up to 2lbs. The fact that your doctor is already saying like "he's too big" and not giving you the full picture is concerning.

Even if baby weighs 5lbs now and he continues to gain 1/2lb a week for the rest of the pregnancy you would be on track to have a 9 1/2lb baby at 40 weeks. That's not abnormally huge. A woman's body won't typically grow a baby too big for her to birth. Some babies are just bigger then others. Mine were both 9lbs, it really wasn't a big deal.

My suggestion would be to just relax. This isn't anything to be alarmed about.
