If the volume of ocean water (6.08 x 10^20 liters) contains 3.5 percent sodium chloride ("salt") by mass and the density of the water is 1.06 g/mL, calculate the total mass of sodium chloride. (1 ton = 2000 lb, 1 lb = 453.6 g)

✔ 最佳答案
6.08 x 10^23 mL = m/1.06

m=6.445*10^23 g

mass(NaCl) = m=2.256*10^22 g

Volume of ocean water
= (6.8 × 10^20 L) × (1000 mL/L)
= 6.8 × 10^23 mL

Mass of water
= (6.8 × 10^23 mL) × (1.06 g/mL)
= 7.21 × 10^23 g ...... (Ans)

If expressed in tons, mass of water
= (6.8 × 10^23 mL) × (1.06 g/mL) × (1/453.6 lb) × (1/2000 ton/lb)
= 7.95 × 10^17 tons ...... (Ans)
