Is there a limit as to how much a landlord may increase my rent in Virginia?

I live in a 5 unit apartment building which is now for sale. I currently pay $825 per month which is a really good deal for the apartment I have. Can a new owner raise my rent to a significantly higher amount or is there a limit as to how much they can raise it at a time? Thank you.

The new owner must honor any existing leases. Your rent cannot be adjusted until your lease expires. Once the lease expires the landlord is free to raise the rent as much as he wishes as VA law does not protect tenants from "excessive" rent increases.

New owners cannot raise your rent until your lease runs out. Once it does run out they can charge whatever they want. My mother had to move once because of the same thing. A new owner raised her rent higher than she could pay.

Your rent can be raised at lease renewal time. Unless you are in a rent-controlled area, the LL can raise the rent as much as he desires.

Your choice is to move or pay the new rent amount.
