One company manufactures high-end racing bicycles. The monthly fixed costs are $3520. The total cost to manufacture 29 bikes is $31360. Assume that total cost, C, is linearly related to the number of bicycles, x, that the company manufactures.
A) The cost function is?
B) The total cost to manufacture 27 bikes is $ ?
C) The cost to produce each additional bike is $ ?

A)
Let f(x) = ax + 3520 be the cost function.

f(29) = 31360
31360 = a(29) + 3520
a = 960

The cost function is :
f(x) = 960x + 3520
(f(x) in $.)

B)
f(27) = 960(27) + 3520
f(27) = 29440
The total cost to manufacture 27 bikes = $29440

C)
The cost to produce each addition bike
= $[f(a + 1) - f(a)]
= ${[960(a + 1) + 3520] - [960a + 3520]}
= $(960a + 960 + 3520 - 960a - 3520)
= $960

But the function would have been C(x)=960x+3520
