Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The medical physics behind it is very complicated, however can be explained somewhat in simple terms. I am sure you hear a lot that your body is made up of a lot of water and H(hydrogen) atoms. Well, MRI basically rearranges your H atoms into parallel but straight lines, and then turns off. When the magnet turns off, the H atoms go back to the original form, and it sends a signal to the computer which generates an image for a radiologist to read and diagnose. It is totally fine, I am sure it sounds "dangerous", however there is no radiation involved and it is very safe, so long as you have no metal devices or jewelry on you including piercings.
