Does legally breaking a lease contract hurt your credit?

Me and my ex split up and there is still time on the lease for our (her apartment now) contract. We agreed to let her mom sign so I can get off the lease and not be liable for her irresponsibility. Will this tank my credit?

If the lease is modified to take you off of it (that requires the landlord to sign too), then you're fine. Any such arrangement requires a written lease amendment signed by the landlord.

You need permission from the landlord to change the lease.
