I m ordering a plain black tail in the mail for my new job as a mermaid, I ll have to do plenty of tricks and will be swimming roughly 5 hours a day 6 days a week.
I want to decorate it up a bit with some paint and was hoping spray paint would due the trick, is this a good idea? Are there any better alternatives?

if you spray paint your tail - check that the paint does not react or melt your tail before using it on a large area

the other alternative would be to have a cloth tail over your black tail

The first question is, what material is your tail made of?

If it is neoprene, you can paint over it, but you need special paint that does not come out with water. You also need to make sure the paint is not toxic, and won't contaminate the water you will be swimming into, specially if it contains any life (plants or animals).

You cannot paint fabric, and any paint sprayed over silicone won't stay. Only silicone adheres to silicone.
