It's a new strimmer only used twice before this. I put too much 2 stroke and there was loads of smoke from the exhaust, white smoke.. I went from red 2 stroke to cheap green 2 stroke.. Would this matter?? But now I've checked the piston and the rings and they're fine. It is turning over as it should, it does get harder to pull sometimes so there's plenty of compression but it won't fire up. There's tiny bits of smoke coming out of the exhaust when I pull the cord. I have put a new spark plug in and tested the spark and there is spark. So any suggestions to what it could be or how I can get it started? Does the oil make a difference?

I'm assuming you mean you mixed too much oil with the gas? Drain the tank into a container and add sufficient gas to get the mixture right. Then pour the correct mixture in. Oil doesn't burn as easily as gasoline, so the plugs can't fire properly. Note: you have probably oil fouled the plug so replace it. While it is out and the tank is empty, pull the cord a dozen or so times to clean out any oil heavy gas left in the fuel lines/carb.

remove the spark plug and pull the starter cord to release sum of the oil.

The colour is normally just down to the makers idea, if the 2T oil is the right burn type then it will be fine, what may have happened is the fuel has evaporated from the mix in the carburetor and so your trying to run on almost pure oil.
Flush out the carb and then try again once you have primed the system with a good oil/fuel mix

Just a thought but it's worth checking. In the muffler some trimmers have a real fine screen that's a spark arrestor. The one I had plugged up and prevented it from starting.

I'm sure glad that some know it all knows what was wrong with my trimmer and why it wouldn't start, especially after cleaning the completely clogged screen and now it works fine. Beside that I just said it's worth checking, not that it was absolutely the reason his wouldn't start.
